Abstract

Background: Obesity is growing and becoming a common health problem in Korea.
The purpose of this study was to develop a weight reduction program for public health care using the internet.
Methods: Internet sites, based on Naver search engine, were monitored to study the number of public health care internet sites which were available. Internet sites were searched to see how many public health care internet sites were providing information on obesity and weight reduction programs for internet searchers. Weight reduction program was developed by using the reviewed literatures and batsalcenter web site (www.batsalcenter.com).
Result: From the total of 192 internet sites sponsored by the Public Health Care Center, 81 internet sites were advertised to provide weight reduction program and only 36 internet sites out of the 81 provided actual information on obesity. However, the quality and the reliability of the information provided were questionable.
Conclusion: It is expected that the newly developed weight loss program will provide accurate and proper information.
