As compared with body height and body weight by ages and sexes from 20 to 24 age group, by means of the data reported under other researchers from 1962 to 1995 for 34 years, this study obtained the estimative values of body height and body weight for the same period, and figured out predictive values of body height and body weight in the ages of between 20 and 24 from 1996 to 2000.
In order to determine the values of the ideal body weight for Korean adults, analyze the 2,993 healthy male and female subjects(male; 1,573, female; 1,420) who were randomly selected for the measurement of body height and weight and the following conclusion were obtained.
1. Estimate of trend between body height and body weight by year.
The measurement value of respective researchers had a bit changes by ages, but the other hand, predictive values showed the regular increase by the stages and all values indicated a straight line on growth and development. That is, in case of the aged 20~24, males had 164.55 cm in 1962 and females 155.0 cm, but we found the increase that males had 172.7 cm, females 159.1 cm in 1995. In predictive value, males showed the increase from 167.16 cm to 172.67 cm and females from 155.27 cm to 160.62 cm respectively.
In case of body weight, male showed the increase from 56.93 kg to 65.36 kg, and female from 51.33 kg to 52.31 kg respectively.
2. Measurement Value and Prediction Value of Body Height and Body Weight.
1) The mean values of estimative body height and weight from 1960 to 1995.
The mean values of estimative body height showed 170.7 ± 1.7 cm in male and 158.8 ± 1.7 cm in female, body weight showed 62.4 ± 0.5 kg and 51.9 ± 0.4 kg respectively.
2) The mean values of measurement in 1995 of body height and weight.
Measurement mean values of body height and weight of 20~24 age group showed 172.7 ± 5.4 cm in male and 159.1 ± 4.9 cm in female, and body weight showed 66.3 ± 9.6 kg and 54.2 ± 7.4 kg respectively.
3. Ideal Body Weight in Korean
1) Ideal body weight with reference to estimative data in 1960-1995.
The correlation coefficient(r) of the statistically height significant between body height and weight showed r = +0.989(P < 0.0001) in male and r = +0.933(P < 0.0001) in female respectively.
Regression equation between body height and weight was estimated for male and female as follow;
Male; Y(body weight, kg) = 1.506 X (body height, cm) - 194.7
Female; Y(body weight, kg) = 0.214 X (body height, cm) + 18.0
We are the fixed only range of the body height 167~173 cm in male and 155-161 cm in female.
2) Ideal body weight with reference to measurement data in 1995.
A correlation coefficient of r = +0.37(P <0.0001) between body height and weight was found in a male group of 1,573 subject and r = +0.35(P < 0.0001) in the case of 1,420 female subject and with the aid of these coefficients a linear regression equation body height and weight was estimate for male and female as follow;
for male; Y = 0.66X - 48.21
for female; Y = 0.52X - 29.28
with the aid of above listed various equation ideal values for body weight by height group in Korean < Table 10 and 11 > together with over weighing and under weighing values were established.
4. Prediction Value of Body Height and Body Weight from 1996 to 2000.
This study showed that body height and body weight slowly increased in adolescence.
This study represented that Korean physique was on the increase and must be measured continually hereafter.
